Eric Baggett

Managing Director, Wealth Strategies Advisor

Professional Profile

Eric Baggett is a Managing Director and Wealth Strategies Advisor at Bank of America Private Bank in San Diego, California.  In this role, Eric is responsible for providing comprehensive wealth management advice in the areas of estate planning, intergenerational wealth planning, charitable planning, retirement planning, tax planning, business succession planning, and cash flow analysis.  Eric works with high-net-worth clients and their families to identify their estate and financial planning needs.  He assesses clients’ estate planning objectives, tax goals, financial targets, and discusses potential tax strategies and planning recommendations designed to meet clients’ needs and objectives.  Also, Eric works with clients’ trusted advisors to implement and monitor estate planning, business succession and wealth transfer strategies designed to transfer assets to intended beneficiaries, while minimizing estate, gift, income, and real property taxes in compliance with federal, state, and local law.

Prior to joining the Private Bank, Eric worked for over 10 years as an attorney at several San Diego-based law firms.  Most recently, he served as a partner in the estate planning group at Henderson, Caverly & Pum, LLP.  While practicing law, Eric drafted all requisite estate planning documentation and implemented advanced estate planning techniques involving intentionally defective grantor trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, spousal lifetime access trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts, charitable remainder trusts, private foundations, family limited partnerships, and family limited liability companies, among others.  As part of the estate planning process, Eric also assisted with the selection and formation of closely held for-profit and non-profit entities.  Additionally, he guided individuals and professional fiduciaries through the post mortem trust administration process and prepared estate tax returns and gift tax returns on behalf of executors.

Eric holds a bachelor’s (BS) degree in business administration with a minor in economics from California Polytechnic State University–San Luis Obispo.  He also holds a Juris Doctor (JD) degree and a Masters of Law (LLM) in Taxation, both from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he was awarded a Dean’s Merit Scholarship.  Eric is also a member of the California State Bar and is a dual Certified Specialist in both (1) Taxation and (2) Estate Planning, Trust, & Probate, as awarded by the California State Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization. He is also holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification, awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.

Despite being a licensed attorney and an active member of the San Diego legal community, Eric does not provide legal or tax advice in his role at Bank of America Private Bank.

*Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP® in the U.S.
