John Batterton

Senior Vice President, Wealth Strategies Advisor

Professional Profile

John Batterton is a Senior Vice President and Wealth Strategies Advisor at Bank of America Private Bank in New York City, New York. John focuses on financial analysis, cash flow projections and tax and estate laws to help clients pursue what’s important in their lives. Gifting, generational wealth transfer, business succession and tax treatment of those actions, are significant areas where John contributes his knowledge and experience.

John encourages clients to discuss with him any plans they are considering when they involve the use of substantial financial resources, such as purchasing real estate or investing capital in a business start-up. By performing cash-flow analysis and explaining his findings to clients in uncomplicated terms, he can help them make a decision to move forward, as is, or to revise their plans. Life events, such as marriage, divorce, forming a blended family, or the passing of a loved one may have implications for a client’s trust or estate plan. John can consult with the Private Bank’s estate planning and trust specialists and synthesize for clients the financial significance of these events.

Prior to joining Bank of America Private Bank (formerly U.S. Trust) in 2011, John worked in a private law practice where he focused on estate planning.  He is a graduate of Hofstra University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and was President of the Psychology Honor Society (Psi Chi). He received his J.D. from New York Law School.

John has been active in the New York City Bar Association, serving a term as Secretary and then a voting member of the Committee on Estate and Gift Taxation. He has volunteered his time to the National Alliance for Autism Research, Meals on Wheels and the Jimmy Fund.

John was born and raised in Queens, New York, where he resides with his wife and their two children. His interest in history takes him on trips to visit historical sites where he can put his skills as an amateur photographer to good use.

John does not provide legal or tax advice in his role at the Private Bank.

Neither Bank of America, Merrill, nor any of their affiliates or financial advisors provide legal, tax, or accounting advice. You should consult your legal and/or tax advisors before making any financial decisions.
