John Stewart, CEPA®, is a Senior Vice President and Private Client Advisor with Bank of America Private Bank in Albany, New York. He directs a team of dedicated specialists who work in concert with clients to develop tailored strategies designed to preserve and transfer wealth in an efficient and effective manner. Backed by a local team of subject matter experts and the global resources of Bank of America, John helps provide strategic guidance to clients with respect to investment management, trust and estate planning services, philanthropic objectives, lending solutions and business owner succession planning.
Drawing on more than three decades of experience, John offers a highly personalized client experience to individuals and families who seek guidance in managing a sudden liquidity event. Whether they are selling a business, receiving an inheritance, or mourning the death of a spouse, he has the extensive experience and know-how to help them advance their financial objectives.
As an experienced professional, John leverages his skillset to help clients identify their personal wealth structuring goals and those for the next generation. As a Certified Exit Planning Advisor, he provides pre- and post-planning for M&A transactions and other liquidity events. With the formidable credit capabilities of the Private Bank, he is able to provide creative strategies for custom structured credit, mortgages, lines of credit, investment real estate, marine, aircraft and art lending.
Prior to joining Bank of America Private Bank (formerly U.S. Trust) in 2006, John was a financial advisor with Merrill, a private client advisor with Key PrivateBank, and a commercial banking client manager with Key Bank. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from SUNY Plattsburgh. John is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, a designation awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc.
Active in his community, John is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Eastern New York and the elder board for Bethlehem Community Church. He has served on the advisory boards of Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York, Salvation Army Albany Area Services, and Visiting Nurses Association of Albany. He has been active in youth programs, serving as a leader of Boy Scouts of America, mission trips for church youth groups, and as a mentor/instructor with Junior Achievement. John and his wife reside in Glenmont, New York. They have two grown sons. His hobbies center around reading, traveling and various outdoor activities, including kayaking and bicycling.
