Senior Vice President, Private Client Advisor
John Murfee is a Senior Vice President and Private Client Advisor with Bank of America Private Bank in Nashville, Tennessee. Plain-spoken, patient and caring, John offers a highly personalized client experience to business owners, corporate executives and multiple generations of high-net-worth families throughout the Southeast who seek guidance in managing a sudden liquidity event. Whether clients are selling a business, receiving an inheritance, or buying or selling farmland or timberland, John has the knowledge to help them address their financial objectives as they strive to preserve their wealth for their lifetimes and beyond.
An integral part of John’s approach is to help build and enhance meaningful relationships with every generation of the families he serves and to guide them in becoming more capable and informed stewards of their wealth. A thoughtful listener, he is passionate about understanding their unique stories and objectives, connecting them to the best practices in wealth management, so they can focus on growing, preserving and transferring their wealth efficiently.
John joined Bank of America Private Bank (formerly U.S. Trust) in 2014 with three decades of experience in fixed income and equity capital institutional sales and trading. He has held several roles within the financial services industry, including managing director of institutional equity sales at Avondale Partners; vice president at Stephens, Inc.; and municipal bond and fixed income division partner at J.C. Bradford & Company. John earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Vanderbilt University, and his M.B.A. from its Owen Graduate School of Management.
John serves on the board for Jonah’s Journey and is a former board member of Operation StandDown Tennessee. He and his wife have lived in Nashville since they graduated from Vanderbilt. They have two grown sons, Jack, a surgical resident in Alabama, and Penn, a minor league baseball pitcher with the Seattle Mariners. Passionate about conservation issues, John is an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and a member of the Econ Club of Nashville.
