Paul A. Ferrara is a Managing Director and Wealth Strategies Advisor at Bank of America Private Bank in New York, New York.  In this role, Paul provides sophisticated estate and financial planning services as well as guidance on art planning and international estate and trust planning.

Prior to joining the Private Bank, Paul was with the Wealth Planning and Exempt Organizations Group at Alston & Bird LLP in New York City, where he focused his practice on pre- and postmortem tax and estate planning for domestic and foreign individuals and handled a wide range of planning and compliance matters for domestic and foreign tax-exempt organizations. 

Paul graduated, summa cum laude, from Tulane University, where he majored in Latin and Italian and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.  He spent a year studying in Italy at the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia of the University of Florence.  He earned his Ph.D. in Italian from the University of California at Berkeley and his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was editor-in-chief (2002-2003) of the New York University Journal of International Law and Politics.  He also received his LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law. 

Paul served a three-year term as Chair of the New York City Bar Committee on Estate and Gift Taxation (2013-2016), leading a team of the New York City area’s most prominent estate planning attorneys in addressing New York and Federal transfer tax and trusts and estates issues.  He remains a member of that committee.  He also is a member of the New York State Bar Association International Law and Practice Section and served on the editorial board of its International Law Practicum (2008-2012).  In addition, he is a member of the New York State Bar Association Trusts and Estates Law Section and the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEP).
 
Paul conducts an annual seminar on estate and business succession planning for the Columbia Business School Executive MBA Program.  In addition, he has given numerous Continuing Legal Education presentations at the New York City Bar on subjects as varied as charitable planning for art, the New York estate tax cliff, and estate planning for same-sex and unmarried couples.  Paul was selected as a New York Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2011 and 2012.  He volunteers as Italian Language Coach for Amore Opera in New York City.
