Professional Profile

Marshall McLean is a Managing Director, Private Client Advisor, and Institutional Client Advisor at Bank of America Private Bank (Formerly U.S. Trust). He works with some of the nation’s most accomplished families, entrepreneurs, senior executives, and nonprofit institutions, advising on the stewardship and governance of significant wealth across generations.

For private clients, Marshall serves as a trusted strategic partner—coordinating the full capabilities of the Private Bank to deliver highly customized advice across investment management, sophisticated credit solutions, trust and estate planning, risk management, and philanthropy. His approach is defined by deep listening, discretion, and sound judgment, helping families navigate liquidity events, complex family dynamics, and multigenerational transitions with clarity and purpose. Clients value his ability to elevate conversations beyond the technical, facilitating thoughtful decision‑making aligned with long‑term legacy and values.

As an Institutional Client Advisor, Marshall partners with endowments, foundations, and mission‑driven organizations to design disciplined investment strategies and governance frameworks aligned with fiduciary responsibilities and long‑term objectives. He brings extensive experience advising boards and investment committees, serving as a seasoned thought partner to institutions operating in increasingly complex market and operating environments.

Marshall brings nearly two decades of advisory experience informed by a legal background, offering a distinctive perspective at the intersection of law, finance, and philanthropy. Prior to joining Bank of America Private Bank, he practiced corporate law at McCarter & English LLP and Reed Smith LLP, where he advised sophisticated clients on complex transactions, governance matters, and strategic risk considerations.

He earned his Juris Doctor from Washington and Lee University School of Law, where he served as Lead Article Editor of the Journal of Civil Rights and Social Justice, and holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bowdoin College, where he captained the men’s lacrosse team.

Marshall is deeply committed to service and access to opportunity. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Greater Newark LifeCamp, supporting initiatives focused on youth development and personal accountability. He is also a Board Member of the Western Golf Association, where he assists with East Coast selection for the Evans Scholars Program—one of the nation’s leading privately funded college scholarship programs, providing full tuition and housing to high‑achieving caddies with demonstrated financial need.

His prior philanthropic service includes board roles with the Newark Museum of Art and the Newark Boys & Girls Club, reflecting a longstanding commitment to cultural, educational, and youth‑focused institutions.

Outside of his professional work, Marshall is an active coach and mentor in youth hockey and lacrosse. He lives in New Jersey with his wife Kim and their three children.
