Jose Tavarez is Managing Director; Vice Chair, Wealth Management Advisor, Bank of America Private Bank. Leveraging his extensive financial experience, he guides how the Private Bank delivers client offerings in partnership with Bank of America Corporation’s lines of business. Jose also works to position the Private Bank and Merrill as premier providers of investment services to corporate and institutional clients. In addition, he works with leadership and client teams to identify new opportunities to serve clients with investment banking, capital markets and advisory capabilities.
In addition to his Private Bank responsibilities, Jose also serves as Bank of America’s New York City President. In this role, he is responsible for delivering the capabilities of the Bank of America Corporation enterprise across its eight lines of business, to enhance the well-being of the people and institutions that call New York City home. He leads initiatives to broaden opportunities for Bank of America’s employees, while also promoting the firm’s reputation as a great place to work and overseeing efforts to positively impact the greater New York City and Westchester County communities.
Jose joined Bank of America in 1995 and has led several business units in the United States and Latin America, including Emerging Markets FICC Sales for the Americas. He has also held senior management positions within Bank of America Global Banking and Markets for North and South America. He began his financial career as a management consultant for Hewitt Associates and KPMG in New York City.
Jose is a member of the Global Diversity and Inclusion Council at Bank of America, where he has led several work streams focused on recruiting and retention. He is the National Co-Executive Sponsor of Bank of America’s Hispanic/Latino Organization for Leadership and Advancement (HOLA), a group committed to helping attract, engage, develop and retain Hispanic/Latino talent.
Jose’s commitment to clients, employees and communities includes volunteer service on the Board of Directors for the Partnership for New York City, the Board of Trustees of the Spence School and the Acquisitions Committee of the Studio Museum in Harlem. He is also a James Brister Society Member of the University of Pennsylvania and Executive Committee Member at the University of Pennsylvania Athletics/JBS Partnership. In recognition of his many accomplishments, Jose has been honored by Children’s Aid Society.
Jose earned an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School. He and his wife, Dr. Holly Phillips, reside in New York City with their daughters, Olivia and Pascale.
