W. Ashley Thiem is a Vice President and Private Client Advisor with Bank of America Private Bank in Charleston, South Carolina. Born and raised in Charleston, he draws on his extensive knowledge of the region to help multigenerations of high-net-worth families pursue sophisticated strategies intended to help accomplish their personal, business and philanthropic goals.

Ashley takes great satisfaction in his ability to help owners of private companies structure meaningful legacies for their businesses. He offers clients with insight that can assist with succession planning, exit strategies, and structuring of their ownership interests to help achieve their legacy-planning objectives.

Prior to joining Bank of America Private Bank (formerly U.S. Trust) in 2016, Ashley was a partner and certified public accountant with Thiem & McCutcheon, CPAs. (He does not provide tax or accounting advice in his role with the Private Bank.)  Previously, he was a financial planner with Paraklete Financial, Inc., where he provided wealth management services for clients who sought guidance in tax minimization strategies, estate planning services, and the formation or sale of a business.

With deep roots in the Lowcountry, Ashley is passionate about assisting local community organizations. He currently serves as chair of the Porter-Gaud alumni association board and is a member of its foundation board. Previously, he served on the board of the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business young alumni board and was chair of the Roper St. Francis Foundation fellows program. Professionally, Ashley is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Ashley received his B.B.A. in accounting from the University of Georgia and his M.B.A. from Charleston Southern University. He resides in downtown Charleston with his wife and two children. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, spending time on the water boating and sailing with his children, seeing his son play soccer and watching his daughter horseback riding.
